Stevens had 3 lbw dismissals. At his pace batsmen should be able to bat well out of their crease to help negate the swing, unless the wicket keeper is standing up.

I'm guessing that probably is always the case these days for Stevens.

The wicket keeper was back when I was watching.

Day 1 close
Glamorgan 94
Kent 163/9

Harry Brind the old pitch inspector would have hated today with umpteen wickets going down across the country. Entertaining day at the Gardens where we are looking at a second half fightback.

It wasn't looking like that in the morning.
Good work by the openers helped see off the new ball and kiwi quick Henry who had 8 straight maidens in an eventful if wicketless first session Murphy looked like a good fit with Selman at the top of the order and worked hard to get to 57/0 at lunch.

That's as good as it got as the day became a highlights package. Stevens got Selman trapped second ball after lunch. Marsh came out to a warm welcome by a good Friday crowd. Henry had his man caught behind at 67/2. Carlson also had one with his name on it. Donald couldn't stick around at 73/4 as Kent used the cloud cover to their advantage. Cooke trapped for Stevens' 4th wicket at 77/5.

Henry got Bumble 4 at 86/6. Salter had a huge lbw shout then went lbw to Stevens for 4. Dai became his 6th victim...Tim. swatted the hattrick ball for 2 to a big clap. Stevens excellent fair play to him.
Timm sawn off 94/9. Hogan next ball.
Murphy not out 39 in the end. As good an effort as Stevens 6/26 and Henry 4/31.

Timm trapped Dickson 6 at 18/1. Timm Dai and Hulk like the Kent quicks all got purchase. Hulk first ball gave Kuhn as good a ball as Donald had. 40/3 at tea.

Final session of more endeavour in the field saw Denly lbw 43 to a ripper from Timm 107/4. Breakthrough on Nelson Dai catching Stevens for Timm. Big shout by Lloyd for a snorter got Crawley given out by son of senior namesake. Great catch by Selman to get Gidman for Bumble. Henry surely didn't think he'd bat today and made 11 before skying one to Hulk for Timm. Rouse chopped on at 141/9 brought Allan Donald to the boundary rope with no 11 who went off with almost 5 overs to go.

Could be another humdinger tomorrow.

Batting conditions should be a lot better today so no excuses.
Hope to see batsman taking guartd outside their crease to Stevens if keeper back.

Murphy battling away but as in the 1st innings he is using up a lot of lives. Remain unconvinced that he is an opener but wish him luck and am sure he will improve.
