Anyone noticed that the Cricket Archive site is now behind a paywall and can only be accessed if you have a paid subscription?

http://cricketarchive.com but try and use it.

Admittedly you do get access to the pdf version of The Cricketer magazine.  I used to have that (£20 pa) but it was never searchable so only good for reading magazines on-line. something I dislike doing.

Such a shame,

It is a shame.  Reading other forums there are ways round it.  For instance some counties' archive records are still available for instance:
http://cricketarchive.com/Yorkshire/

leads to

http://cricketarchive.com/Yorkshire/Players/index.html

leads to

http://cricketarchive.com/Yorkshire/Players/R.html

leads to
http://cricketarchive.com/Yorkshire/...06/204606.html

this only works for their former "partner sites" and not all counties. It's ok changing Yorkshire for Lancashire, Middlesex, Surrey, Nottinghamshire.....

Have to be careful not to click on a link which is not directly relevant to that county otherwise hit the paywall

Yep. There are other Clubs who get their stats from the Archive as well:  for them it's a commercial paid-for service supplied by Cricket Archive.

Five or six years back now I think it would have been, Kent's stats disappeared off the Archive site and when we looked into it we were told - by the Archive people - that Kent had decided they didn't want it in any more because they didn't have the money to pay for it.

A number of us on the old We Are Kent forum discussed it and decided we should organise something and pay for it ourselves only to then be told by the Archive people they couldn't deal with us.  Which was odd because at one stage they were quite happy to do so.

If memory serves me right it would have been £90 per year.

£90 pa cheap compared to what they are now charging.

Can't help but wonder where things will be in six months time.  They seem confident that enough subscriptions will be paid, but it looks like it will be from clubs / groups / media rather than individuals.

Don't quote me on the exact amount but it wasn't a huge cost and we were surprised that KCCC were apparently so short of money they couldn't afford even that small amount.  It was that which got us thinking that it shouldn't be allowed to just disappear and the offer to pay for it - made directly to Cricket Archive - was made.

CA were happy --- and then they weren't.

Go figure, we never did.

Cricket Archive a really good site but not worth the money for if you just like a canter through it on a whim from time to time.  Hope county sites don't go behind a pay wall too.

County sites wont go behind a paywall - the are primarily there to sell (cricket, event and even hotel) tickets to the public.
