Some players spend far too long in the second team and reach a plateau from which they are unable to step up, there is a big gulf developing between 1st & 2nd division cricket we have a number who are not good enough for the top flight but will make a good living elsewhere, the trouble is Lancashire have always been good payers. I've heard that Proctor has been told if he can find a job elsewhere that we will make up the difference in pay for the remainder of his contract, a couple of years ago 2nd team wkt keeper Cross couldn't find a County to match his 2nd team wages of a reputed £80k - no wonder.

The club are negotiating with McLaren to come back next year although he is undecided as hehas a young family and is obviously hard to be away from them for 6 months.

He has been a very good signing although his bowling one the one day stuff wasn't the best.

Maybe make him captain if he does come back.

It doesn't appear that any deal is agreed yet. If it was I would have expected him to be capped this morning. Alex Davies has just been capped in the Pavillion Long Room, the light outside must be bad.

I believe Chanderpaul has agreed to come back next year and we are signing Graham Onions.

Jarvis left out today , is this a sign he is going back to play for Zimbabwe?

I think Bohanon should get a full pro contract as he looks a good prospect.

There are a few like Brown and Lilley would have a deal until 2018 who may be allowed to talk to other counties but if no one is interested and they don't have an alternative career they are likely to sit out the last year of their contracts.

I would like to see the seconds be more of a development side than a reserve side. Although it is great we won the championship having guys aged 29 playing regularly is no good for anyone.

Good signing. Delighted to see that it is being referred to as a new era for the club where cricket has top priority.

Whilst it has been clear to many of us that cricket did not have top priority I didn't expect it to be admitted.

I do hope though that there aren't too many signings though from counties wanting to keep their players. There is always room for one or two but we should be making our own and I would be a hypocrite if I was happy at Lancs raiding someone else's team having spent the last few years objecting to another rugby team doing that to mine.

However welcome to Keaton Jennings.

So much for my desire to have Lancastrians in the team.

At least there are some on the Board though. Very happy with these appointments provided that the Director of Cricket is full time.

And best wishes and thanks to Kyle Jarvis

McLaren has said the chances of him coming back are "slim" which is a shame as he has been excellent.

Chapple says he wants Chanderpaul back and rumours he has signed for another year.

Procter is negotiating with Northants which is not surprising after he has got 3 half centuries for them.

I believe we are after another seam bowler.

Buttler signed a 3 year contract last year.

Maynard was talking about wanting him back but he has now left. Steve Davies is a very fine wicket keeper batsman for them. Better in red ball cricket with bat and gloves so there would be the same issues as with our own Davies when Buttler is available.

Somerset probably need to put their resources into a regular championship batsman available all year.
All depends on whether Buttler is homesick as i dont know how settled he is up here.

How much time does he spend in the North West?

So Luke Procter leaves (no surprise there).

Josh Bohannon signed on a two year deal (no surprise there).

Liam Hurt signed on a two year deal. A bit surprised there as it demonstrates a change of heart. He had a scholarship contract with Lancs in 2014, then did a tour of county 2nd XIs even playing a List A game for Leicestershire. So after we did not sign him in 2015, he trialled in 2015 & 2016 with Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Northants, Gloucestershire and Warwickshire. None of whom signed him. Thereafter in 2017 he also played for Durham 2s and for the MCC YCs only to return to Lancs under the present coach (who knows more about bowling than I do): http://cricketarchive.com/Lancashire/Pl ... teams.html

No word yet on Brooke Guest who was only on a summer contract. Or Chanderpaul signed on a one year deal. Anderson, Lester and Clark also out of contract (signed two year deals for 16 & 17). And I've no idea what length contract Croft signed in 2016.
The cull begins
